I always looked up to my Grandfather, who was the Fire Chief in Longmont, Colorado, and hoped that someday I would get to ride in the big red fire engine just like Grandpa Davis. The opportunity came to me when there was an opening on the Moab Fire Department in 1979. When I responded to my first fire, I saw a family burned out of their home, standing out in the cold, with nothing on except their pajamas...I knew then that I wanted to be in public service, and to help families in their time of need. I have a son who has followed in my footsteps, and I hope that my grandchildren want to be Firefighters, too.
